The Teach China Program begins with an intensive TEFL / TESOL training and Certification phase. The first 2 weeks of TEFL / TESOL training take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (including a great excursion), followed by an additional 2 weeks in China for local orientation and practice teaching:

Cambodia
• Airport pick-up in Phnom Penh, welcome dinner and orientation.
• TEFL / TESOL Certification: 2 weeks of classroom work at our Southeast Asia headquarters at Pannasastra University in Phnom Penh. TEFL / TESOL Program Content
• Excursions that include a tour of the area around Phnom Penh and a 3-day trip to Siem Reap to explore Angkor Wat.

China
• Two weeks of additional training at your destination site, where you complete your course with lesson preparation, practice teaching, and observed teaching.
• Unlimited Mandarin lessons and country orientation at your destination school in China.

Job Placement
Following your 2 weeks of classroom work and travel in Phnom Penh, you continue on to China to finish your TEFL / TESOL training and practice teaching in the location where you will ultimately work. Your teaching position will be at one of our affiliated schools in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, or Beijing. Job assignments rely heavily on your individual qualifications and preferences, which we always seek to accommodate. China’s complex systems of city-specific regulations and work permits can complicate things, but you will be advised of your specific job options before you commit to the TeachChina program. These prescribed options are for your protection, as the consequences of violating local laws can be significant: it is not unheard of for teachers working illegally to be expelled from the country! To ensure that this does not happen, LanguageCorps only places participants at schools that conform to local laws.

EXPERIENCED TEACHERS PROGRAM & 1 YEAR EMPLOYMENT IN CHINA

FOR EXPERIENCED TEACHERS WHO HAVE NO TEFL / TESOL CERTIFICATION

English Teachers with more than 2 years experience can enroll in this special program. Staff will meet with you to review your experience and customize the regular 120 hour TEFL / TESOL course to fit your circumstances.

Teachers with some training but less than the 120 hour TEFL / TESOL course can enroll in this program. Again, staff will meet with you to review your prior training and adapt the program help you complete training to the 120 level.

THE TEFL / TESOL PROGRAM

The HEART of the program is a specially designed 144 hour TEFL / TESOL course that combines what we feel are the essentials of what you need to become an effective Teacher and to successful in your new country. The program has an academic class work component, a foreign language component, and a teaching practice component.

Let's walk through the program and see what you will be doing on a day to day basis.

During the first two weeks of class week, your time will be dedicated to academics. We want to you have a solid base so that at the beginning of the third week, you are ready to begin student teaching. The day starts at 9 AM and the day is broken up into four two hour teaching segments with breaks and lunch as appropriate. Topics covered during this first part of the program include:

The third and fourth weeks the schedule changes dramatically. First class session of the day is language training. Second session varies between language practicum and project development time, while the third and fourth sessions of the day center around lesson planning, lesson development, materials development and the conducting of actual classes. You will be expected to teach as many as twenty hours of time with "real" students. You will have additional time to go over your plans, and your previous days presentation with LanguageCorps staff.
