THE TEFL COURSE / TESOL PROGRAMThe HEART of the program is a specially designed 144 hour TEFL / TESOL course that combines what we feel are the essentials of what you need to become an effective Teacher and to successful in your new country. The program has an academic class work component, a foreign language component, and a teaching practice component. Let's walk through the program and see what you will be doing on a day to day basis. During the first two weeks of class week, your time will
be dedicated to academics. We want to you have a solid base
so that at the beginning of the third week, you are ready
to begin student teaching. The day starts at 9 AM and the
day is broken up into four two hour teaching segments with
breaks and lunch as appropriate. Topics covered during this
first part of the program include:
The third and fourth weeks the schedule changes dramatically. First class session of the day is language training. Second session varies between language practicum and project development time, while the third and fourth sessions of the day center around lesson planning, lesson development, materials development and the conducting of actual classes. You will be expected to teach as many as twenty hours of time with "real" students. You will have additional time to go over your plans, and your previous days presentation with LanguageCorps staff. With the above as a basic framework, there are a number
of PROGRAM OPTIONS that are available to fit individual
needs and backgrounds.
